Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
We wrote this policy for everyone who wants to know how their personal information is used online. It explains how Best Compare Book Price handles “personally identifiable information” (PII) on bestcomparebookprice.com.
PII is a term used in US privacy law and information security. It means any information that can identify, contact or locate a specific person, either on its own or when combined with other information. Please read this policy to understand what we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it.
What personal information do we collect?
- Account details: your email address and password (stored encrypted), and whether you asked for our newsletter when you signed up.
- Watchlist and price alerts: the books you save and the target prices you set.
- Messages: your name, email address and message when you use our contact form.
- Technical information: your IP address, kept for a short time to block repeated failed log-ins and spam.
We never ask for payment or card details: every purchase is made on the store’s own website.
When do we collect it?
When you create an account, add a book to your Watchlist, set a price alert, sign up for our newsletter or send us a message. You can search and compare prices without giving us any personal information.
How do we use it?
- To run your account, Watchlist and price alerts, and email you when a book reaches your price.
- To answer your messages and support requests.
- To send our newsletter, only if you asked for it.
- To keep the site secure and stop abuse.
How long do we keep it?
- Account, Watchlist and price alert data: until you delete your account.
- Contact form messages: deleted automatically after 6 months.
- IP addresses used against failed log-ins: a few minutes.
How do we protect it?
- The site is served over an encrypted (SSL/HTTPS) connection.
- Personal information is kept on secured servers that only a small number of authorised people can access, and they must keep it confidential.
- Passwords are stored encrypted, and we do not store or process payment details.
Do we use cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website, or a service working for it, saves in your web browser (if your browser allows it). They let the site recognise your browser on later visits and remember certain information, such as whether you are logged in.
We use only the cookies the site needs to work: they check that your browser accepts cookies, keep you logged in to your account and protect your session. They are set only when you log in.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. When you click an offer, the store’s own website may set cookies, for example to record that you came from us through an affiliate link; those cookies are covered by the store’s privacy policy.
You can set your browser to warn you before a cookie is saved or to block cookies. Each browser does this a little differently, so check its Help menu. If you turn cookies off you can still search and compare prices, but you will not be able to log in or use your Watchlist.
Third-party disclosure
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run the site, such as our hosting provider and the service that delivers our emails, and they must keep it confidential. We may also release information when the law requires it, or to protect our rights, property or safety, or those of others.
Third-party services and links
- Stores: offers link to stores’ own websites, which have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or practices. Affiliate links may tell the store that you came from our site.
- Google Fonts: our fonts load from Google, which receives your IP address when a page loads.
California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
CalOPPA was the first state law in the United States to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. Its reach goes well beyond California: any person or company that runs a website collecting personal information from California residents must post a clearly visible privacy policy, say exactly what information is collected and with whom it is shared, and follow that policy. Read the law (California Business and Professions Code, section 22575).
In line with CalOPPA:
- You can visit and use our site anonymously.
- A link to this policy, with the word “Privacy”, is at the bottom of every page.
- Changes to this policy are posted on this page, and you can update your own details by logging in to your account.
- We do not track you across other websites and do not allow third-party behavioural tracking, so Do Not Track signals do not change how the site works.
Children (COPPA)
The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) gives parents control over the personal information that websites and online services collect from children under 13. It is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the US consumer protection agency, whose COPPA Rule sets out what website operators must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online. Read the FTC’s COPPA Rule.
Our site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Fair Information Practices
The Fair Information Practice Principles are the foundation of privacy law in the United States, and the ideas behind them have shaped data protection laws around the world. They cover how personal information should be collected, used, kept secure and corrected, and understanding them is key to following the many laws that protect personal information.
In line with these principles, if a data breach affects your personal information, we will tell you by email within 7 business days.
Emails (CAN-SPAM Act)
The CAN-SPAM Act is a US law that sets the rules for commercial email, sets requirements for commercial messages, gives people the right to have businesses stop emailing them, and lays down tough penalties for breaking it. Read the FTC’s CAN-SPAM guide.
We use your email address to send price alerts you set, reply to your messages and other requests and, if you asked for it, send our newsletter. To follow CAN-SPAM, we agree to:
- never use false or misleading subject lines or sender addresses;
- clearly mark any advertising email as an advertisement;
- honour unsubscribe requests quickly.
You can switch off price alerts from your Watchlist, and stop any other emails by contacting us through our contact form.
